eInfraCentral – Letting users concentrate on being users!

Mission of the H2020 funded eInfraCentral is to ensure that by 2020 a broader and more varied set of users (including industry) benefits from European e-Infrastructures. 1. Problem Due to a fragmented e-infrastructure landscape, end users are often unaware of the magnitude of e-infrastructures services available in Europe and service providers have difficulty reaching out to potential users due to the lack of coordination/ harmonisation across various e-infras. Even if users find out about the availability of a certain e-service, it’s often difficult to find further information and compare it with other existing services, and service providers lack user feedback. This leads to inefficient funding patterns through the emergence of overlapping efforts and as such, slower rates of innovation due to the lack of competition in the field. 2. Solution eInfraCentral fills the gap by creating a unified online service catalogue where potential users can search, browse, compare and access e-services. Users can also rate services and express their level of satisfaction, helping service providers to improve their offerings. The eInfraCentral service description template/ catalogue was designed via an open discussion with e-Infras. This joint approach to defining/monitoring e-infra services helps increase their uptake and enhances understanding of where improvements can be made. eInfraCentral facilitates the development of a shared language to describe services. As a core initiative of EOSC, the project supports the shift towards an e-infrastructure marketplace, the EOSC service catalogue and portal. 3. Action The audience is invited to engage with the project by: i) exploring the beta version of the eInfra Portal by browsing, searching and comparing the ca.70 e-services and leaving feedback that will help the project team to improve it; ii) following project developments by signing up to the newsletter and engaging with it through social media updates.
